Happy Spooky Season!!

Can I just start by saying, it is officially spooky season! It is my FAVOURITE time of year, the gorgeous colours throughout the countryside, taking out those big fluffy sweaters, watching you favourite shows while drinking a hot cup of your fav tea.

I think there is something so fulfilling that the earth completely changes 4 times a year, there is something so beautiful about new beginnings and chapters coming to a close. If we never change or grow, we stay in the same place we’ve always been, who wants that?

I love the moody colours fall brings into the design world, we gravitate towards darker, heavier colours this time of year. It’s so easy to change out some cushions and throws in your living areas to bring a whole new feel to the space(s). The cold weather just makes us as a species want to snuggle up by the fire and read a novel or play some card games with loved ones.

My husband and I love exploring throughout the year but we are definitely home bodies, we love cooking our food from scratch, lighting candles, playing some soft jazz tunes and enjoying eachothers company.

It is a time of year where investing in your home is the most important, think about it, we spend more of our time in the cold snowy days of winter inside, enjoying the curated pieces we have chosen.

The reason people hire me is not because they want to work with a designer, it’s because they want to come into their home and FEEL good, make their friends feel welcome and make lasting memories.

Being in Calgary has been great, truly, the people here are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, I really feel at home here. Our landlord for example is one of the kindest people I have ever met, I have never spent so much time talking, people here really like to chat!

My consultations have gone from half hour to an hour EASILY! I love exchanging stories and hearing about peoples families, it connects us. Being a designer, I don’t just want to work for my clients, I want to create lasting relationships for years to come.

There has definitely been a big step into renovations and taking on LARGE projects here in the city, most of my clients don’t want me to style their living room… we are doing full space designs, following that they have long lists of things they are wanting to do with their homes, change out the flooring, renovate the master bath, paint the whole house, switch out all the window coverings, the list goes on. It has been quite the undertaking.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love helping clients with large or small projects, I guess I just never thought this is where my business would be this early on after moving to Alberta, I believe it’s because people really want to invest in their homes because next year again, there will be a very high market for selling homes.

Tyler and I have been looking at homes out here and I cannot believe how competitive the market is. There are about 100 people moving to calgary per day, which is insane, but I mean look at the prices of homes, groceries, gas, all expenses in BC or Ontario, people cannot make ends meet. People then move out here and of course, the prices get driven up again because there are so many people bidding on homes, somewhere to live.

I am very grateful to have chosen this industry, especially after covid and more and more people working from home, including yours truly. Peoples are turning their houses into their forever homes, because when you put a little love and $$ into your projects, your home becomes your sanctuary away from the world, your space alone.

Isn’t it so much better to be excited to come home after a long day? I don’t think people realize how much your surroundings impact you and your moods until you have created the space of your dreams. You may not even know what your dream design is, that’s where I get full creative control and put a design together that has blown clients away in the past.

Sometimes all you need is a new rug, a couple pieces of decor and a beautiful pendant and you have completely transformed your space. New life in your home actually makes you happier, and inspires you to do more, since you FEEL different! Design is really simple, put time and love into your space, it creates such an impact on your wellbeing and even mental health.
