Today I’d love to share another project, design boards and all about this incredible client! I have known this girlie since I was about 12 years old, we have the same birthday just one year apart and always got along so well! This lovely lady is married and has two kiddos already, life is wild!!
Anyways, she reached out to me not too long ago and asked for some advice, of course, we started with a free consultation where I filled out a client questionnaire over Facetime. She proceeded to show me around her space, today we are focusing on her kitchen and dining space, and almost immediately my mind starts racing with all these ideas, paint colours, wallpaper, and a very specific table with timeless dining chairs.
She voiced her concerns about mixing her and her husband's styles, which is a very common worry for many design clients, as long as you are making sure there is a little bit of each style mixed into the design, you are golden. She loves mid-century modern and he wants modern/rustic, as long as you keep things simple my clients have always had a positive reaction to my design choices.
Most people nowadays want Bright, Open and Inviting, as did these clients which is no surprise. Since they also have children, I had to make sure to source products that are going to stand the test of time, with no paint chipping, denting in the floors, or scratches on the cabinets. This is when design is different from, for example, designing for an elderly couple, you don’t have to worry about those things.
In this project, there was a lot of wood tones, which is beautiful but when you have dark wood-toned cabinets, dark laminate floors and a dark dining room set, it falls flat and there is no interest. We had to change this, I wanted her beautiful personality to shine through, I’ve never met her husband but from what I can tell, they are a fun, young family, that should show in your interiors.
So, without further ado, here is what I came up with! Please let me know what you think 🙂
I wanted to bring in gorgeous bamboo toned wood flooring, a soft hanging pendant above the dining table to bring more light to the space, a white dining table, light blue chairs and matching wallpaper with beautiful birds and tree branches. A gallery wall of the family right when you walk into the dining room since this is of course, their focus. I wanted to save this family money, so I found a wonderful kitchen company in Lethbridge (where they live) to sand and refinish their kitchen instead of putting in a brand new kitchen which would be $20,000 +. Also I wanted to lighten this space with a white quartz countertop (a must better investment, especially for the resale) A soft kitchen runner mat since moms are always on their feet, and beautiful decor to finish it off.
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it!
